North Ferriby United 0 – 4 Prescot Cables

Two goals in either half from Eamon Price and Darren Byers gave Prescot Cables an emphatic win at North Ferriby. It left Ferriby and manager Neil Parsley shell shocked in disbelief from this opening day mauling. Parsley locked the players in the dressing room for half an hour after the match to vent his anger.

“I’m absolutely shell shocked,” said Parsley. “After all the hard work we have put in pre-season and we open up with a result like this. It’s quite strange because they scored two quick goals and our reaction to this was poor.“

Five or six individually and also collectively the team have held their hands up. They as a team have fallen below what is to be expected of them at this club. “We’ll have to dust ourselves down and do some soul searching in the right areas. It now all about our trip to Frickley on Tuesday as after a 4-0 drubbing I’m looking for a reaction”

Ferriby were looking to open their league campaign with an opening day win but were left shell shocked by a rampant Cables side. The Villagers had little to offer against a side really ready to take the Unibond by storm this season.

Price scored two in two minutes midway through the first half and instead of spurring Ferriby on they seemed to go more into their shell. It was Cables who fought hard and deservedly went on to win the game quite handsomely.

Ferriby had some brief spells of pressure but nothing really to trouble Cables keeper Richie Mottram who had an incident free day. Gary Bradshaw and Michael Price went closest but failed to find the target for the home side.

It was man of the match Price gave Cables the lead on 26 minutes when he connected with a great cross from Gavin Lynch for 1-0. He was the on target even before the home side had time to settle with Byers this time the provider.

The game was effectively over in the 55th minute when Byers turned scorer with a perfectly struck shot from the edge of the box into the bottom left hand corner. The home side’s misery was further compounded on 84 minutes when a beautifully struck free kick from Marvin Molyneux was palmed away by Pecora as Byers followed up to slot the ball home.
